The mission of Athens County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications is to receive emergency calls and requests for public safety services. These calls and requests will be resolved by Athens County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications personnel by dissemination to our public safety responders in an expeditious manner.
Athens County 9-1-1 Emergency Communications is headed by Leonard D. Bentley, Chief of Operations. Appointed to the position in April 1998, Leonard formerly headed Scioto County 9-1-1 in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Leonard has been active in Public Safety Service for 37 years as a firefighter, paramedic, and a deputy sheriff, and currently holds commissions with Athens County Sheriff's Office and the City of Nelsonville Division of Fire.

Athens County Emergency Communications provides Phase II Enhanced 9-1-1 services to all residents in Athens County, Ohio. Cellular phone users and college students, are encouraged to fill in the form on the linked page to update their locations for faster emergency response.

The Athens County 911 office utilizes the CodeRED Emergency Notification System, an ultra high-speed telephone communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas in Athens County in case an emergency situation requires immediate action, such as missing child or evacuation notices.
